Forestry Extension

The Forestry Extension program uses various forms of communication—including social media, webinars, popular and peer-reviewed publications, in-person visits, and workshops—to help educate stakeholders about forest health, invasive species and forest management in Washington.

This program, led by Dr. Molly Darr, is new to WSU NWREC. Our initial objectives and outreach will continue to be refined to meet on the needs of the stakeholders.

Molly Darr recently joined WSU’s Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR) Extension Program Unit as the new Forest Health Extension Specialist.  Dr. Darr specializes in forest and tree health, with a concentration in forest entomology and integrated pest management techniques. Dr. Darr received her Ph.D. in entomology from Virginia Tech in 2017 and previously served as director of the Southern Forest Health and Invasive Species Program at Clemson University. Dr. Darr also served as a tree fruit entomologist in Wenatchee, WA, where she provided expertise in entomology, pathology, and tree health and management in an orchard setting.

Dr. Darr serves Whatcom, Clallam, Kitsap and Jefferson counties, while maintaining a state-wide program on behalf of WSU-CAHNRS. Her Forestry Extension program uses various forms of communication – including social media, webinars, popular and peer-reviewed publications, in-person visits, and workshops – to help educate stakeholders about forest health, invasive species, and forest management in Washington. She also co-leads the Washington Chapter of Women Owning Woodlands, an education network aimed at connecting women forest landowners with the resources and skills they need to manage their own forests.
