Biography

Molly is from Yakima, Washington and discovered her passion for sustainable agriculture while working as a Sustainability and IPM Intern in hops fields, apple orchards, and an organic garden. Molly studied Integrative Biology and Anthropology at UC Berkeley, during which she served as an Agroecology in Action Fellow, volunteered at the Gill Tract Community Farm, and helped process soil samples in the lab of Dr. Whendee Silver, who inspired her to pursue soil science.

After graduating, she served as an AmeriCorps Food Educator in Bellingham, teaching gardening, cooking, and science lessons in grades K-8 in public schools, and participated in the Practicum in Sustainable Agriculture led by Viva Farms. She is deeply inspired by the positive impact that sustainable agricultural practices can have on the climate crisis and human health.

Her master’s research, advised by Dr. Gabriel LaHue, will involve working with farmers to learn about compost application, incentive program participation, and soil health practices and measurements, with the goal of understanding decision making, identifying barriers, and increasing accessibility. She is so excited to be a part of the vibrant food systems community in the Skagit Valley!

In her free time, she likes to dance, sing and write songs, nerd out about tea and medicinal herbs, and read as many books as humanly possible.
