Biography
Deniz Inci is the Horticultural Weed Scientist at the Washington State University Mount Vernon Northwest Washington Research and Extension Center (NWREC). He earned his PhD in Horticulture and Agronomy from the University of California, Davis. His research integrates weed science, plant physiology, and ecology to advance both applied and fundamental understanding of weed management in horticultural and specialty crop systems. His program focuses on integrated weed management; weed biology and weed–crop competition; and the physiological and biochemical mechanisms underlying herbicide resistance in key weeds affecting crops, including but not limited to blackberry, blueberry, raspberry, potato, and tulip. He also develops management strategies to prevent and mitigate herbicide resistance and investigates off-target herbicide movement, including herbicide drift and its impacts on non-target plants. Outside of work, Deniz is an avid motorcyclist who enjoys exploring Washington’s coffee shops, restaurants, and national parks.
