Horticultural Crops Entomologist

The Department of Entomology is seeking a dynamic, motivated, and problem-solving teacher and leader to join an extraordinary team of scientists and extension experts in multiple disciplines, including plant pathology, horticulture, soil science, plant breeding, and weed science. As an integral part of this team, we are looking to fill a 12-month, tenure-track (assistant professor rank) teaching and research/extension position; start date to be negotiated. The successful applicant will develop a nationally recognized and regionally relevant program focused on entomology of horticultural crops to enhance crop productivity while increasing profits and improving environmental quality. The successful candidate will be housed at the Mount Vernon Northwestern Washington Research and Extension Center for research and extension activities and the WSU-Everett campus for teaching courses.


Required Qualifications:

  • By the date of hire, earned Ph.D. in entomology or closely related field, with depth in a discipline and the ability to address the breadth of insect pest ecology and management and sustainable farming systems; and
  • Demonstrated record of scholarly accomplishments in research, extension, and/or teaching commensurate with career level.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with technical and nontechnical audiences in oral and written forms;
  • Record of competitive grant success commensurate with career level;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of insect pest applied research, integrated pest management (IPM), and sustainable agricultural systems;
  • Knowledge of state-of-the-art techniques applicable to IPM and insect pest management research;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to work effectively with individuals and groups of diverse cultures, backgrounds, and ideologies;
  • Demonstrated ability to disseminate web-based information; and
  • Demonstrated evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching and student mentoring.
