There are many definitions for integrated pest management or IPM.  Generally, IPM is regarded as the use of environmentally safe practices to maintain a pest (insect) population at a level below that causing economic injury.  Since economic thresholds have not been established for most plant pathogens, IPM takes a somewhat different approach in plant disease control.  In our vegetable pathology program, we view IPM as the management of plant diseases based on information.  In other words, MPI, the reciprocal of IPM.  The following approaches in vegetable disease management are based on information we have developed during our research activities.
