Brown Bag Seminar | Ryan Solemslie | Improving Sweet Corn: Screening for Resistance to Early Season Seedling Diseases*

November 7, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Free

Ryan Solemslie, MS Student in the Department of Plant Pathology at WSU NWREC. In northern growing areas, like the Pacific Northwest, sweet corn production is often limited by cold conditions at planting that favor seedling diseases. As a part of larger USDA SCRI Sweet CAP project to improve sweet corn production and marketability, the focus of this project is to isolate and identify possible seedling pathogens found on stunted and dying sweet corn seedlings grown in the Columbia Basin of Washington, determine those that are pathogenic, and then use the pathogenic isolates to screen diverse sweet corn lines for resistance to these seedling pathogens.

*One (1) Pesticide License Recertification credit will be available.
