The Fruit Horticulture program at WSU-Mount Vernon Northwestern Washington Research & Extension Center includes a wide range of projects, covering grapes, tree fruit, unusual fruit such as as figs, kiwi, sea buckthorn and aronia, and ornamental tree fruit, including crabapples, ornamental cherry, plum, pear and apricot. Research promoting the commercial development of wine grape culture and hard (fermented) cider are major current projects.
